The Mozart Dinner Concert is a magical event that takes place every evening in the magnificent Baroque hall of Europe’s oldest restaurant in the Abbey of St Peter. It’s a perfect setting for a highly talented troupe to perform an entertaining selection of Mozart’s operatic greatest hits, and during the intermissions a delectable candlelight dinner is served. When making a reservation choose between a three-course or more expensive gourmet four-course dinner. The latter includes Salzburg’s famous sweet and fluffy soufflé dessert, Salzburger Nockerl, and preferred seating, in the form of dining tables closer to the stage, in the first two rows. My trepidations of touristy tackiness were completely unfounded: I loved both the dinner and the concert. If Mozart doesn’t appeal to you, the restaurant has many other rooms offering fine dining without the concert. Passionate hosts Veronika and Claus Haslauer, the couple running this historic establishment, are also proud, pedigree Whippet owners. These lucky canines have their very own salon.
